Is there ANY doubt that Jamie Gold wins this distinction. He has done NOTHING since winning and probably also holds the award of being the biggest asshole to ever win, too. Anyone want to disagree?

I think it was Jerry Yang.
Not to say Gold is too much better, but when Gold was playing well his talk got people to play hands in dumb ways, including getting a good pro in Paul Wasicka to stack of with little for the win.
yang does suck, but i gotta say it is that punk JAIME GOLD,,,what a dweeb, rumor is he screwed his sponsors
i gotta go with jerry yang myself. although there are quite a few runner ups. jaime gold being one. joe hachem, ray romano, david black
There was a thread on this exact topic a couple weeks ago. That said, Gold was pretty bad. Yang was worse. Gold is way less likable tho too.
No wayyy either of these guys is the worst, they had to beat a ton of players to get there....My nomination for worst is Hal Fowler 1979 winner, He won 1 bracelet total, and only had 1 In the Money Cash in the WSOP
I don't know. On one hand it could be Gold considering he just ran really good during the tournament, but, he did use amazing table talk to take it down. And then there's Yang, he was fun to watch, "I raise, one million," but, both haven't done much for poker since. At least Gold did do high stakes poker and pokerafterdark. I don't know. Yang is more likeable though, too bad he got some bad financial advice.
Jaimee Gold by far the worst and most unliked poker player......Joe hachem would be my runner up
ray romano? everyone loves raymond likes to play but certainly has never won the main event, lol. I think you have to divide this question into 2 eras, like sports, you can't really compare pre "moneymaker" era when there were less than 1000 entrants (less than 10 really early on) to after when it is multiple 1000's of entrants. And as far as only having 1 bracelet, a lot of later winners only have 1. I don't know who is worst player, but you have to give them all credit for winning it, they're all better than me, ;).
jerry yang i was so angry when i saw that he won and was how he play :@
Chris Moneymaker, saw him play live a few times down here in florida...also seen him play on a poker after dark type show ages ago...so terrible. One of the worst really.
Maybe Moneymaker. I don't know. I do wonder how Darvin Moon made it to the final two though.
jerry yang does suck, but his twin is jamie gold, but like what was said they made there
this is so easy its funny, worst player ever to win WSOP is Jamie Gold by far...he sucks
i wouldve agreed with u on Jamie Gold Killer Ace but this thread is stupid as hell dont u guys realize the main events been running since the 70s? And if u go back to the history and look at it theres a handful of winners ive never even heard of. we cant estimate whos the best or worst. but jamie gold would be an easy choice over the past decade, chris moneymaker is actually not that bad..
greg raymer and his idiot glasses, he just a fat bastard
Since the boom, Jamie Gold. Hands down,,, He's a real dumb ass.
I say Gold - he played a great psych game, but once everyone knew what he was up to, he had no game to back it up.
Jerry Yang. Jaime Gold was running hot as shit and getting lucky, but he is still better than Yang.
Well that would be me, but I am a much better player then I use to be.
Jamie Gold, but I have to admit, his run and table talk was better than most stand-up comedy shows. If you ever watch a run of his year back to back to back when ESPN runs marathons, it is classic stuff
Chris Moneymaker obv.. ever seen his play???
Doyle Brunson's answer may well be Hal Fowler.
Doyle Brunson prepares for his 38th World Series of Poker - ESPN
jamie gold.. whatever happened to that guy
yang and gold are about equal in my book
I dont disagree with the Hal Fowler pick, however I never ever seen him play, at least the people being named in here people have seen them play
Also anyone saying Moneymaker is just silly. He has FT'd WPT events, cashed in the HU tournament, and made deep runs elsewhere including the PCA. Every pro talks about him in high esteem (Sam Farha does not I assume)
gotta go with yang. been a long time since i watched, but i just remember him being scared money praying with his little picture but hitting everything.
haven't watched the gold episodes either in a long time but remember him playing aggressive deepstack huge field tourney poker essentially correct while also hitting everything and being a damn asshole. i also think he made quite a bit of money irl which could explain to some degree lack of subsequent playing and/or success.
edit to add: also i think i remember that a backer eventually took him to court over their proportional share of the prizepool that he stiffed them on, though i don't remember the outcome. wiki says not really a backer but a like a bodog rep or something.
also he won $12,000,000. it is insane the wsop got that big. i wonder with legal poker nationwide, sponsorship like there was, bar leagues being legal, internet satellites being paid directly to the wsop as they used to be, etc. how big it could get.
You're dead wrong on both. Moneymaker has played and cashed in several major events online at Pstars and does well in their cash games, too. He is considered by most of the pro's as a good player although perhaps he hasn't done much in most of the recent WSOP events. Robert Varkoni is an excellent player who has cashed in 3 Main Event's, as recently as 2011. He also finished 2nd to Tom McEvoy in the WSOP Tournament of Champions in 2009. He has many other interests besides poker and just chooses those interests over poker and rarely plays online.
I would say Joe Hachem, not that he is an *ss just that you don't hear anything about him since.......................
Yea well everyone thinks jamie gold is a idiot!
gold is unlikable yes but i must agree that moneymaker era on is must harder than before...i dont like gold but he has a high win rate at small tourneys in casinos...he talked his way to the win and i must say again i dont like him but he did win it and i think yang is the worst since moneymaker era has started
Jamie Gold got busted out by a 21 yr old on a live event. He's trash.
i guest thats me. especially when i dont play serious, lol. only if i play on play money tables though. but if on real money, no way..
Jamie Gold
yea Jamie Gold has that Crown!! Not even close!! lol
Robert Varkoni I think is the worst
lol- before I opened the thread I was thinking probably Gold-- hmm maybe Yang-- No it has to be Gold..lol
