if this was a heads up pot i completely agree with you. But with 5 people in the hand in a raise pot i didnt want to get my whole stack in the middle on 8910 w/2 diamonds flop. If i check raise i have to make it $70-$80 which in effect means im going with my hand regardless of the turn since i would only have about 80ish left. Im never raising the flop only to fold the turn given stacked sizes.
And the bad part is that there are so many bad turn cards that can come off (Any diamond, 7, 6, Jack, Queen).
This is why i didnt like the raise option. I decides to just flat and see what comes off. Then when it came a diamond and the button was still firing (not scared of the diamond at all) i figured he must have bottom set beat.
Very few times if ever that i have laid down a set. However, i dont feel too terrible about this play, but who knows.
