How to Keep the Bankroll Growing

Hi guys, My name is Reece, A.k.A GottImHimmel, I'm an amateur poker player of 3 or so years. Before Full Tilt went under, I had $1,100 at one point. Before I go on,I'd like
to say " I have NEVER deposited on an online poker site " I know how to make money without! However, keeping that BR growing seems to be an issue of mine.

So my status: I'm now a CarbonPoker player ( DerGottImHimmel1 ) and I have as of now a $58 BR. I play often in the Pokerowned hosted freerolls. I have won 90% of the money from tournaments, I am mainly a tournament player indeed.

So I ask from one amateur to another - What is the best strategy to continue growing the Bankroll? Although I am a successful tournament player, we all know how often you won't cash, no matter how good you are! I don't excel at cash games, although with time and patience I can keep my own.

I hope to get some interesting suggestions, I don't wanna blow my free BR!

There's a good site that offers some pretty good free bankrolls from time to time. "BankrollMob" is the name of it.

playing in tournaments that are only 5 percent of your br. If you double then increase your stakes if you lose half lower your stakes. Just a suggestion since i too have this problem of maintaining a BR. :)

Yeah, taketherake offers good advice. I personally do not play above 4% of my roll EVER, and try to keep it in the 1-2% range unless there is a really juicy tourney with overlay or something. I like the OP have never deposited at any site. I'm currently sitting on a little over $1,600 at Carbon, but it took me about 2 years to build it to that from 0. Play lots of freerolls and then only buy in for a small percentage of your bankroll. If you are a winning player, the roll will increase bit by bit.

I really don't have any advice,,,except when you go on a down swing try to recognize it and maybe play lower stakes. I consider myself an okay tournament player,,,, but really suck at cash ring games...

if the carbon tourneys didnt suck so much i would play more of em, but i have been having some decent success on low stakes cash tables lately

ive been steadily building my bankroll at merge...I really enjoy the $2.00 + .20 10 man SNG's (I prefer the normal speed than turbos but will play both)...but for the most part I get 4-8 ten man SNG's going at once (a few Fast Fifty's ($.60), a Dollar Dazzler and/or 18 man Turbo Pritchard room (both $1.10), and finally a few at Dolphin Room ($2.20))....key thing is to keep playing in the freerolls here...hopefully i can build my stack so i can regularly enter the small rebuys as well as the $5.50 and $11 tourneys no rebuys when there is guaranteed money

yea i like what forgotten boy has to say about it ... but not multi tabling . i can only do 1 or 2 at a time.

Same thing here AlwaysAces. Have you been working on your ability to do more than 2 at a time? Just curious if you have and what works what doesn't.

Well, with a bankroll of $58, I would definitely not enter any tourneys ove 3 bucks. And I would go no higher than 2c/5c tables. But that is me. Keep an eye out on forum freerolls to help stabilize the bankroll.

its hard to do a good bkroll management at the carbon site, not enough regular sng at the .25 cents, til a 1.10 level..but good luck

full buy ins at the cash games and complete focus...dont get comfortable...dont play unless u want to...have plenty of buy ins...unless your a baller

Many people have the problem of going for that big score, and thus losing their bankroll. To avoid this, I set secondary goals. For example, my primary goal is always to continue building my bankroll bit by bit, but for a secondary goal this week I may want to play in a big Guaranteed tourney that costs $50 -- way out of my bankroll. Good BRM says forget it, but what I will do is set a secondary goal. Such as, "I am going to sit down at the 10NL tables and if I can grind out that $50 over the next 2 days, then I will play in my tourney. If I make it, I play. If I only get to $20, I will continue the grind until I hit my $50 and play the following week. By doing this, I can make sure that my bankroll never goes backwards when I step up to the plate to try my hand at winning the big one.

dont go on tilt when you lose a big pot lol like i did and play small buyins too good luck

My br= $160 i only play $1 to $3 tourneys and cash games i buy in for $2-4 :) So i hope once ftp reopens that i follow them rules and avoid tilt at all cost

bankroll management is really everything in order to be a winning player anybody can be good at poker but to follow the rules of bankroll management is what can make u or break you

There's NO difference between leaving the room with a (+) increase and NOT going back than leaving with a (-) increase.

you should always have 25 buy ins left in your bankroll left for whatever stakes you are playing. For example if you buy into a 2cent/4cent no limit table with 2 dollars. You should have 50 dollars left in your account. this will help with bankroll management. Also go to pokerstrategy.com and read about bankroll management

There are two main thoughts present here, money management of the br as well as types of gameplay.

Through experience I have found one of the easiest ways to build your br is to start with a double or nothing format. Dub's are fairly easy to place in as one only needs to beat half the crowd. Carbon has 6 and 10 player games starting at $1.08, $2.16, $3.24 for 10 ppl and $2.16, $3.24 for 6 ppl. The objective is now to stay alive through half the crowd, hence tight and selective. Try to avoid Turbo's so you can be choosy with hand selection with much time before blind problems. Be willing to throw away mediocre calls with the focus on survival and you should be able to get paid.

As to br management, I am somewhat ingraded to the portfolio management theory of no more risk than 1/20 or 5% of your roll on any proposition. However when considering the type of game one is playing and then factoring in the liklihood of placement I tend to gravitate to 10% for dub's. Outliving 3 or 5 people in a dub is a higher probability that placing in 10+ person SNG's. If the crowd is significant than minimal should be risked as the payout is of much greater mutiples.

I have never been able to manage my bankroll well.

I like to start with smaller stakes, then increase as the roll gets higher

any time you double up at cash table leave.... and start over....

I feel like 3-4 tables is the best to play to maximize my profit, in cash games at least. Idk about tourneys

Now this is a difficult thing for a player to do when they are on a hot streak at the table. Has happened to all of us but yes this is the BEST advice when playing at a cash table, whether it's live or on-line.

i play micro stakes and usually start woth $3.00, when get to $5.00 i leave the table. it seems to work for me.

sometimes i go all in with the best hand and then the 5 cards come and i no longer have the best hand

I have never been able to maintain a good bankroll.

Thats what I do when I play live...If I double up what I bought in for then I will ask for a seat transfer and move on to another table that way Im still making some profit....Last weekend my third hand at a table I won a $450 pot and only bought in for $100 so I got up a few hands later when the blinds hit me.

i've been with carbon since 2005 and have won maybe $2000 there all without depositing like yourself.wheat i would suggest is that you make a min. deposit and get the $500 new depositors freeroll tickets for 2 weeks i think. when i started playing there we could still use Netteller so i would win money there take it of thru netteller then redeposit it and get what ever promos were going on $500 freeroll has big payouts small fields and a cool lil accolade for 1st place. i also would play in tournaments like the $3.30 $5500 guaranteed it's everyday at 8:00 it's a rebuy tourney but if you're a patient player u can probably take it down without a rebuy.

another strategy i had was playing the $2.20 sit-n-go's. you figure it like everytime you place 1st and win $10 play say $4.50 in a big money tournament. try and play and win or place in as many $2.20 sit-n-go's daily till you have the money for say a big money freezeout or enough for say a buyin and at least 1 rebuy for a big money rebuy tourney and let it ride. you'll stay ahead good luck

Only way is too have a system, play same limits till you have enough left to move up, always leave your self an out.....

if you want to keep a bankroll growing dont play carbon.
