you play a lot more hands in cash games, so you encounter a lot more situations. what makes it tougher is that if you make one small mistake or miscalculate a range, you stand to lose 1-2 buyins in one hand.
tourneys are fun, but they are high variance. some of the tourney pros can play like 1000s of games without making a good spot in the money. same thing happens in cash games, but with tourneys of 1000+ players it can get real sick.
