wow!! Thats refreshing in a way to see that pros have to deal with variance like the rest of us. He's one of the best so i believe he'll be okay. The pros who are sponsored get very lucrative deals from online poker sites as well, so while it still hurts to run bad, i'm sure he's doing okay.
May sound stoopid, but at least he has it to lose...
Gus is a perfect poker player for live session. On online poker he is unable to survive for a longer time ... and it will getting even worse!
Pros need to be mindful that anyone driven enough can google search the player and pick apart their entire style of playing in about 20 minutes. There's entire databases of data for these high-profile players and if they don't give other players enough credit can and will lose money. According to Ed Snowden, all of our playing histories are stored somewhere in Utah so it can happen to you too (online at least)
For someone to lose that much money playing online poker needs to kill themselves
also remember as a FTP pro im sure if he does go broke they will deposit money into his account as part of his sponsor ship deal so even if he goes broke im sure there is a check coming soon and then he'll jjust need to run good for a little while...but damn I would shot myself if I lost that much!...lol
I do not think that he would play if he can not cover his losses.
Gus has a career based on gambling...I'm pretty sure if he's been able to do it this long, its more probable that he will continue to be able to do so.

Poor Gus.... Well every since FullTilt decided to put me on "play money" only action.... I never pay them any attention... Gus ought to have more since than play such major bankroll online... I thought he was a pro

I used to watch them all the time there, Ive seen him lose 100k a lot of times, so this isn't that much in retrospect, if you also figure he probably won most that in order to lose it in one hand. he will be fine

Gus is a genius. Taking almost a million dollar hit is probably all part of gus' masterplan.
first poker book I read was some GodAWFUL garbage by Phil Hellmuth some friend dumped on me. Really bad advice, mostly him just boasting about his wins and epic laydowns. I find this news funny because he wrote pages about how much he hates Gus Hansen and Huck Seed's styles. Thank god Dan Harrington's books set me straight.
Gus's book was actually the best I read, called EVERY HAND REVEALED.

I happen to know from about 8 books from other pros that I've read that Hansen is a monster. But all of their stories about him are bad beat stories so it doesn't make him look as skilled as he is lucky. I'm not naming any names - but there's gotta be at least a few "great" players out there that are not amazingly skilled, but have had unreal amounts of good luck while playing - and the psychological edge can make you play much better. Many talented players go broke because they have a gambling addiction - sports betting, horses, boxing, even playing with too much of your bankroll at once.
He is always fun to watch. Hopefully he has the roll to keep going.
