If your playin well it's a sport... Comments?
It depends on the person. People who are serious it is more of a sport, a game of skill. There are plenty of people that view it as gambling, and play it that way, chasing the draws and while usually missing, can win big when they hit.
I'd like to think of it as a sport, obviously it's not physically exhausting unless you're playing for 10 hours straight. But it is competitive so I'd say it;s a sport by definition
poker is most definitely a sport, theres a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and u have to use skills to get there, just like u would in anyother sport
There is definitely skill involved and you need to train yourself to win, but there are also a lot of gamblers out there
For me it's fun,,, enough said.
I'd like to think of it as a mental sport. Since it does require focus and concentration.
Poker is not a sport, nor is dart's, and nor is cruffs training ffs. a sport is where you physically exercise your body to a degree, poker your just exercising your mind. so NO, it's not a sport and never will be.
Its soppost to be a game of skill so I would say sport, but sometimes I wonder!
Poker is merely an opportunity to spank all the kids who failed prob/stat.
Gambling.
If its on Sports Center its a sport right? ha ha I agree though it is merely fun and enjoyment.
well if you compare it to some other sports i would say that it is a hundred percent!
Poker is high risk/high reward gambling similar to penny stocks or currency trading. But with higher variance, and more swings.
I don't consider it a sport, but if you want to call it that, so be it. But it's gambling no matter how you look at it.
weedhighROI, but what about when the hunter is sitting in a deer stand and waits for the deer to cross in front? You're not tracking, walking through brush, et cetera.
poker is most definetley a sport I mean come on kids...
Poker is definitely a sport, it takes hard work and dedication to be a good poker player...
Well poker is never a sport in my view - it can be considered either a 'skill game' or a 'chance game' - and whether it is one or the other depends on factors such as blinds (once stack to pot ratio is low enough, then it is right for both players to move AI with most hands, resulting in gambling); and betting structure and the way in which each player approaches the game.
Most consider poker a game of skill if it's a sport so be it
Poker Is Definitely More a Game of Skill Than of Chance
Yes, there is an element of chance in poker. That is our probabilities and outs. But the smarter poker player knows when those odds are worth it, and when they aren't.
I think the dichotomy you've established is a faulty one, as regards whether poker is a game of skill or chance. It certainly isn't a sport, I am sure. But the game itself can be played as primarily a game of chance by players who choose to do so (looking to push on any/all coin flip situations). But, if you haven't the necessary skill, then your chances are slim at best. It's a game of intuition, probabilities, and manipulation.
its not a sport in anyway at all an element of gambling and an element of skill but a lot of luck
its supposed to be a game of skill, dont know if that qualifies it as a sport or not but to watch people online its pure gambling, so would chess be considered a sport? since both use your mind and no physical activity i dunno!
I guess whether it is a sport or not is subject to opinion...but it airs on ESPN and garners alot of sporting advertising dollars...
I believe poker is a sport, however it's a sport that most people don't take seriously. I play for recreation mostly, and to take my mind off of my troubles. But every now and then, I play to win so watch out :)
i realy think , that the pokergame ,,in this time is an sport ,,,,coz ,you need to prepare , have to study ,and practice to became a good player ,,,thars i think ..........ty bro ,,,,,,,,,
imo it really depends on the level you play...u can be a rec football player...same for any other sport...same with poker by playing extensive mtts traveling....so i think its a combination of all
I agree poker is a skilled game, but it would be the only "sport" in which an amateur can beat a seasoned veteran...And that is something that would never happen in a pro sport. But hey, we all know it's a skilled game, and if you think differently your probably not winning.
a little of both!! its the sport that keeps us intrigued, but the gambling that keeps us addicted!!!
any game that can be played while drinking is not a sport...i.e. bowling, darts, etc..
Its more of a game. Not really a sport and its not just gambling.
A lot of people I know think of it as a sport. I don't, to me it's a great challenge not just a sport.
But every man to his own.

A sport is simply a showing of talent in a a game form. Technically a sport
I think the game of no limit Texas holdem is both a sport and a gambling game. I mean, if a guy like Darvin Moon can get in 2nd place in the wsop then it has to have some gamble involved forsure.
I wish we could convince our ultra-right assembly here in N.C. that it is a game of skill. Even home games are (ostensibly) illegal here.
