Im looking to go on a grind, and i was wondering if it was better to set money targets at the end of each day or to set a certain amount of time to play each day aside. Any help would be appreciated.

You want to play on the stakes which you can afford. Say you have $100, you might want to play in the .25/.50 or lower. any higher you will lose your money really fast if you go on a bad run. The purpose is to keep playing so you wont go broke and able to continue playing.
tournies, 1% of BR, SnG, 2% of BR, and Ring game, 3% of BR
move up from there as needed
Setting an amount of time is definitely better than setting a target amount of profit. Mostly because you can't control the results. Setting a max loss limit is a good idea however to prevent tilt. Say a certain amount of max buyins at a cash table (2-3 rebuys). If you play cash you should find the ideal length of time where you are the most fresh, etc.
Free download a bankroll calculator called the Fergulator. Google it, free bankroll calculator Fergulator. It basically figures out everything that PokeYourFace said for you, just punch in your bankroll and it tells you what to play and if its ring game when to leave cause you really never want to have more then 10% of your bankroll at risk at one time.
I use Chris Ferguson bankroll management rules. No more than 5% of bankroll for cash game or SNG. No more than 2% on a MTT. Never have to worry about reloading.
I think everyone keeps telling you to go back to the standard BRM rules, because each day is different at a poker table. You don't know how variance will affect you, so a money goal isn't a good idea. Somedays you will lose, and somedays you will win, but if you've hit your target in 30 min, why stop if you think you can win more and you're still fresh? As far as a set amount of time, that one is better, but I've noticed my attention span and optimal playing time varies a lot depending on the day. With online poker, I start going brain dead after about 6 hours, but I can more sense that it's time to wrap up whatever I'm in and stop for the day. Sometimes, that only takes 2-3 hours to hit that point, and I don't want to be losing money when I know I'm playing my worst.
To be honest. Setting short term profit goals or target $ amounts is terrible. It is one of the worst things you can do for your bankroll. I played 200,000 hands over the course of 2 months at .02/.04. I would have streaks where I won 7+ sessions. I would have break even days. And sometimes I got crushed. I ended up barely +2bb/100. Whatever. The point is I had a 50k hand streak where I was not even break-even. A 50k hand streak where I went +5bb/100. So many things you cant control. Even setting an amount of time to play is not necessarily good or bad. But its way better than setting a short term profit goal. Long term profit goals are okay. As long as you can come to terms with how long the long term really is.... wow. Anyhow my advice is force yourself to take breaks a little more often than you think you need them, stay fresh. Start with shorter sessions then build up. Quick breaks help. Breaks after losing. Cheers
idk man, you should prolly set a cap on what u spend just incase you arent successful that day
It realyl depends on your ROI the higher your ROI the less of a rolle you need
i get all that and agree but any oppinions on micro bankrolls building from 0$ dep. cashed in 3 freerolls and a 0.50$sng got up to 9$ cash games allow to sit for 0.08 at 2 1/2cent tbls but mostly 0.80$ limits and 0.50 is cheaoest tourney. am back down to 4$ should i just keep grinding freerolls and occasional 0.50$sng till i build up?how much?comments
Never play beyond what your capable of affording. If you don't want to lose all your money fast then play in micro SNG's. If your just getting started take your time and enjoy the winnings.
Some people dont realize how important bankroll managemnet is!
Sometimes when I drink I lose all focus on bankroll management lmao!
Bankroll. management is one of the main things you have to do in poker to be a pro
i DONT KNOW WHAT THE DEAL HAS BEEN LATELY BUT i'VE BEEN RUNNING ON A BAD STREAK. I have been getting donked out by some of the worst hands i have ever seen. I hope my luck changes quickly.
Bankroll management... Shmankroll shmanagement!
I am not going to deposit any money on bcp. I won a few dollars so far from the $10 OD tourney and i won a little from the PO bcp tourney. I have about $4.25 on bcp from nothing. There are .01/.02 tables that you can buy in for 8cents. That wouldnt be very smart though. I play with 40 or 80 cents. The rules of br management do not apply with this low of a br. Should i save my money and try to win more freerolls or should i keep playing the cash table ?
You can do cash tables. Any amount of money can be managed. Keep playing the freerolls and do something like anything over $5 you play with. So once you get $6.50 you play a $1.50 double or nothing SnG. Then you can take that and try a 1 cent 2 cent ect ect. It all depends on what you feel comfortable with. Your maintaining the $5 and trying to build from there till you get to an amount that you can mange with br management rules. Some where between $25 and $50 is where I kick in with brm actual rules.
Depends on the ordeal you want to create...
Poker strategy can last up to months at a time, I know big stacks in Sn'Gs that would fold a great preflop hand just to see the range of VERY tight players patiently waiting for pocket-pairs ample to tt-aa.
These players are players you really got to watch out for, they will make you fold medium hands (all pairs are good) just from image alone.
My advice is to just play according to your play style; patience pocket-players go for low %, maybe 2-6%; however, if you want that edge to make a big stack just go for broke and risk 20-30%, etc,.
I have bankroll management. I do have to admit though it is probably a good thing. If i felt like it i'd toss 50 % of my bankroll in a big tourney if i had to. gl all.
I set mine to never going all in...
Playing with less than 2% of your br let's you analyze your game and adjust accordingly
either or is a good idea. Everyone say something different.Id say go with a stop loss and if you win want you want play tighter
Time is always a better barometer than money goals for a session. You could set a stop loss and maybe a ceiling but I think it is far better to put a time limit on it. "I am playing for 4 hours" is better than "I am going to play until I make $50." Better more season pros will tell you to keep playing as long as the game is good. Hope this helps.
When you consider your bankroll. Do you consider it as what you have on one site, across all sights, what you are willing to invest total, and do you separate live from online. I usually play considerable lower stakes online. ie my min buy in live is usually twenty, whereas my usual online by in averages under five.
bankroll is how much you got in investments, such as cars money houses and saved accounts. its all in one
If I were u I would never deposit money and build from frerolls
Bankroll management is hard man its the reason why most people cant win online.
Hell with it, just take all your money play the highest stakes you can, and either go home big or with nothing and try agine later lol
One day I will learn what this Bankroll Management is all about lol
