what are players thinking?

ive been playing this game for about 7-8 years now and what im about to ask im not totally innocent of, but at same time what the hell are we thinking? many players will play a 78 suited or 34 suited and thats why theyre calling. theyre even retarded enough to tell you if they win the hand it was suited. who really fucking cares if it was suited or not? i know i sure as hell dont. now staying with this issue yea ill limp sometimes and try to hit a straight or flush with suited connectors but are they really worthy of calling a raise? possibly in a multi way pot but usually NOT!!!!!

so exactly whats going through a persons mins when they call with q2 offsuit or j6 offsuit or even suited? im not a perfect poker player by far, and i have much to learn still, but why are these players making these calls? theres justifiable reasons to raise with this cards i agree with that. stealing blinds or trying to take a pot in position. sure i can go with that, but im sure many of you have been beat with rags vs your big pocket pair. and i dont mean in a limped pot. i mean some mentally retarded player got in a raised pot with junk to try and suckout. my most recent big pot i lose was to one of our mods DONKSUE214 i mean dalsue214 lol. playing in client the other day i have 8700 points on the table and raise it 2200 preflop or close to that. dal calls. not only did dal call she snap called. flop came 268 rainbow. dalsue proceeds to raise me all in for 6500. i type in here comes the suckout and call. of course 3 on river giving dal the straight. LMFAO

this is not a thread of me bitching and whining over a hand i lost. ive lost many hands and will lose more in my days. i just cant see how these types of players are expecting to make a profit in this game playing the way they do. we have many of these types here. my opinion is im glad when we log onto a poker site it doesnt list us as pokerowned members or id be embarrased by alot of you.

as a community arent we supposed to try and improve each others abilities and make us all better players? as least thats how i feel it should be around here. we have alot of players late at night that rail each other and its nice when youre running deep in a tourney and you have an audience of friends rooting you on.

anyways back to the point. i would like some opinions as to why players choose to play bad or bad hands and if anyone else wants to puke sometimes after losing to these people?

I play poker for 5 years but it is still often surprised by how little fingers to play well

many players are just trying to gamble. some of them even know the odds but are in it for the thrill. also they desire a lot of action so they want to see a ton of flops.

Ok I agree with that...people in client are looking for a lot of action. They want to be in the pot regardless of their chances.

Thats the reason why I don?t play in client.
Nevertheless a lot of people don?t care abot the money or points, they just want fun and thrill, especially in freerolls.
Btw, I like to play suited connectors from late position in a limped or minraised pot.

Most just don't care. It depends a lot on the type of game you're playing. Freeroll, small buy in turbo tournament, micro cent cash game. In those types of games, you wil get players like that. Better play exists in deep tournaments and more expensive cash games.

also as has been said some people just like to be in every hand especially when the blinds are low towards the end of a tourney when blinds are big they do not go after those hands

Everyone sees the wsop on tv and ppl makin big calls and reads with crazy off hands...

It really doesn't matter because everyone believes as long as they have 2 cards they have a chance

I taught my mother's friends to sort of play Texas Holdem...which they can't get enough of now. lol Anyway, my mother is 78 and they are all around that age. We play for pennies only. And they play every single pot! And more often than not they all stay in till the river with nothing...cause you never know what might fall. I have tried to tell them the advantages of folding a few hands at least...but it doesn't phase them. lol
I once read a discussion about which were the juicest tables to play in Vegas. And this guy's opinion was the beginners tables were, not because they didn't know how to play but because "They come to Vegas to play, not to fold".

Does it matter if its suited... Yes it does. If u hit a flush youll win a big pot 5% chance. If u hit a str8 youll win a big pot 20%. If u hit trips or two pair, youll win a big pot usually. If u dont hit anything u can get the hell out of the hand without losing much! Suited connectors or one-gappers are nice hands.

suited connectors are great hands basically any pocket pair is gunna be a coin flip to even anny premium hand

Well, the way I see it is that not a lot of people on this site actually invest their OWN money to play online (mostly built from free-rolls). If you believe they can go to a casino where stakes are LOWEST 1-2, and standard open raises are $6-10... and they call every hand, then either they have to get really really lucky and connect with the board every hand (which i've seen happen... so sick) or they'll probably bleed out and the thing is, they don't even realize they're bleeding.

Ya u pretty much hit the nail on the head. to whoever started this thread i mean come on your talking about client. playing for points! who gives a shit, its basically playing free/fun or for less than pennies, if you count the conversion rate! people are just screwing around, same for freerolls or as wild says low buy in tourneys. You need to play in some games where something at least moderately substantial is on the line in order to see some better play. Not to mention, these are the players you want to see, after all in the long run they are the ones that make you money.

Some ppl just play crazy and some play good. Idk what people think sometimes thpugh.

I bet and BB made a huge (7X) raise. I had reason to think the guy was a calling station, so I shoved. He called.

He flopped 2 pair 8's and 2's. I understand protecting your blind but 8-2????????

I don't know what people are thinking either but their carelessness allowed me to win the last tourney with a ghreat starting stack.

It also helped that I ran like God in spurts during the tourney..I did get tough the final 3 though

people keep pointing out how its the bad players that will make you money... That's only kinda true. If every time you make a hand, you have a fish chasing till the river hoping to get lucky then you can only hold them off for so long. While yes the first couple might pay you off and build your stack, the more and more your in that situation the more likely you are to get unlucky and lose to someone catching a miracle on the river. In fact if you do manage to hold em every time your up against a fish chasing it, some might say you were luckier than the guy who hits the 2 outter on the river and wins.

Each hand is independent; you are misinterpreting what they are saying. In the long run, if you keep getting it in ahead, you will win, its based upon the Central Limit Theorem (basically, that as your sample size goes towards infinity, your variance goes to 0). Thats a big simplification, but it should illustrate the point.

I understand that. I was referring to practice and not theory of what goes on and in a tourney every hand collectively effects the final outcome. I'm just saying it doesn't matter if you win 999 out of 1000 hands against the guy chasing a draw. Yeah that would mean they pay you off more than not, but all it takes is that 1 loss to knock you out of a tourney if they have more chips than you. So in a tourney setting where you'll have multiple hands where you face off against someone chasing something, it doesn't matter if more often than not your gonna win the individual hand against the guy chasing because the few that you lose will end up costing you more in the long run.

This is exactly why you need a bigger roll to play tournaments. You want to get in that situation because as you continue to play more tourneys you will win in the long run. Sounds like results oriented logic.

if it's results oriented logic then that must mean I get donked out of every tourney I play in... oh wait your right I do. That's because 95% of the time your in a hand someone is chasing something and no matter how many times they pay you off, one or more of them will suck out on you. It's unavoidable!!!!!! Like I said before, in order to fend off all the donks every hand you have to actually get luckier than the guy that hit's the 2 outter on the river.
