You don't gain anything... rather you lose value
Yeah you just gain the 2 hours you skipped basically
I play both ways I make up time and make the money faster when I late register and some tourneys I early register and pay not to get zonked off by dodo moves wit k8 Q7 hands when I above with AK
Late registration allows you to wait out the first several levels of the MTT where everybody has 100-200 bbs. You have to play a lot tighter in early levels and at could put yourself in a disadvantaged position by playing even hands like QQ for too much of your stack pre flop. It is easier to play regular ABC poker once the blinds have gone up to the 4-6 levels.
late registering isnt one of my favorite things to do, deepstack play is more fun and better skill wise for me at least
Less bb = more action, for someone like Hellmuth who is viewed as a nit, he passes the early stage where everyone is folding and helps him get more action because people are more like to put chips in with less bb's
Depending on the game I sometimes buy in late. Generally if the payout field is deep and the late reg is long (especially on the carbon network) then cashing is super easy and your only a few double ups for contention at real profit. Also rebuys where the addon is large, sometimes I'll get into those.
Some of us just can't help but be late for everything.
I only ever late register when I'm actually running late. I don't really see late reg as a good strategy, not sure why some people do it for tactics, but hey, if it works for you then do it.
It honestly for lazy people! You get an advantage playing more hands!
Registering before late add in Carbon tournaments is a waste, especially in the deep ones. You can play for five hours and odds are you will min cash or win slightly more than the minimum. Or you can register late, play for an hour or two and min cash easily, or more with a little luck. The blind and payout structure is pretty bad for most of there tournaments imo. I'd rather it be harder to cash and end up with a decent prize for my time.
There is no advantage to late registration. If you don't want to play against the donks preflop, you will be able to get a few hands in when the blinds are low that are not preflop all ins. Worst case play a few select hands where you are likely to have much more than a coin flip advantage and see if you can double up (AA, KK)
i dno i feel like if the player has no worries late reg will not matter. with the way all internet poker is set up though, late registration is almost a waste of time.
I think that it could be useful to late register if you are more likely to pay poorly or see too many flops bc the blinds are so cheap...
Honestly to a certin extent i believe that late registration is a good thing, it provides time for other player who arent able to make the specific time play. Also it gives others a chance to see what the competition looks like, it can be either a soft field or a very challenging one. you'll be able to observe others caliing the river with bottom pair, or you'll be able to catch a player make a value bet seem like a bluff very wisely.
I have had more success registering late, not sure the exact reason why...it just works better for me.
At times this is the easiest way to money too
Save a lot of time, win one flip and you are in the money.
A lot of good points in both ways, i had this convo in chat less then a week ago, and one thing about itis late reg puts me at a level I'm comfortable in. For one, I'm from the era of starting with 1500 chips, by level 5 if you are at same stack, that's like 15BB, nowadays level 6 is 50BB, still insanely deep staked imo. I'm also known as a short stack wiz  i just play better under the pressure. Other advantages include watching the field first (mentioned but...) And more important, them NOT watching you at first, giving you a huge info advantage. Depending on structure, sometimes regging at last level puts you within 10-20 tops before the bubble breaks, not even requiring a single won hand before the money, and as mentioned one double up almost ensures it, while 2 dbls puts you at avg or higher stack. There's a lot of benefits to regging on time as well, all depends on your style. My recommendation for the average player is start at the 50/100 level, that's the most balanced for all styles
sometimes i see a tournament i like and i just decide to opt in if the blinds feel comfortable and i already know im going to be short and people with big stacks are going to try to bully but that also puts you in a good position to double or even triple up if you get lucky. Ive signed on very late and have won 1st before and i got use to that strategy when it came to turbo. people wont know your style and they might just think your getting it in quick to double up or just doing a fishy move. but its also base on the player if your good shortstack or where you feel comfortable and how you apply yourself towards the people that have already been playing.
you gain from sitting there for 3 hours playing....
you save time is all you can make money in the early parts of the tournaments but i like a little bit of a late entry myself
In small buy-ins and freerolls it would alright to get away from all the donks pre-flop shoving with crap in the hopes to double or triple up on the first hand. I see that happen sometimes its annoying.
you gain 3 hours of your life that you will never get back.
i like starting at the beginning lets you size up your opponents to just jump in later you loose that
