Pocket jjs all in or fold?

Yesterday I was playing a 45 seat sng.I was @ the final table sitting with 16k in 1st place.I was in the bb and woke up with pocket jjs.Everyone folded around and the sb sitting with 13k moved all in.I thought it out figured I probably did have the best hand but decided most likely I would be in a race situation and decided to fold.I didnt want to risk almost all of my stack that late in the tourny.I had just transferred to the ft and I didnt know this player and if he was just moving on the pot.The blinds were 400 800.I showed my jjs and the whole table thought I made a bad decision and that I should have called.I was getting donk faces from everyone.Just wanted to see what you guys thought and to get some feedback.I finished second and I lost to that same player that I was up against with the jjs.I asked him what he had when we were hu but he would not tell me.I regreted not calling.

sb went all-in? JJ can be very vulnerable in that situation. How easily a flop with an A,K or Q could crush you. Besides that, your hand might already be beat if the small blind went all-in and only had a fewer chips than you. You could take a chance that you have the best hand, but I like your fold in that situation - wait until you get a hand that YOU feel good about pushing all-in. You weren't the donk there.

very good fold,but i have to say in the battle of blinds or even blinds and dealer seat,lot of people get super aggressive just to win that blind,u see lots of crazy betting if everyone else folds,most of the time means they are just week,but some time they have hands,in my play 80 percent of time they ready to fold to a 3 bet,but 20 percent of time they have good hands.
but you made a good decision in the beggining of the final table to fold,cuase we all know the money is on the top 3 places and u already there i think

JJ is a good hand. You can go all in. That's my opinion.

Truedizzle, I think it's pretty much a 50/50 to go all in or fold. I think you made the right choice since you finisned 2nd in the tournament. All in pre flop in that spot at the final table and probably a race it's up to you to go all in or fold. I think you made a good choice. Good job on the 2nd place.

you got 2nd right? than i believe you made a good fold. I think you were ahead with JJ just a gut fell. but with a full ft you dont want to be one of the first ones out. Besides you sent a message to other players- I only play the nuts/very strong hands - you probally got a lot folds to your raises.

How many players were left at that point was this a final table of 10 or 6? If it was a 9 or 10 handed table, its a good fold. If there were only 6 of you guys left, you should prolly call. If there are a lot of players with 10bbs or less, you dont need to risk the majority of your stack. You can still be patient and have the other small stacks kill each other off.

But i dont think this is a race situation a lot of the times. He could easily have AJ, A10, plus 10s, 9s 8s and maybe a few more worse pairs since he's relatively short and try to chip up. He knows you arent going to risk most of your chips and will prolly shove really small pairs since thats essentially the same as shoving with 10s. He expects you to call with AA, KK, QQ, AK, and possibly JJ, 1010, and AQ. Thats not a lot of hands...

^ i agree, and JJ would of been a easy decision for me to call.. because i feel it wont be a race alot of the times etheir , and im certainly not domiated.

but trudizzle i seen you been tearing up the tournaments lately, and even tough i don't agree with the fold you been showing great patience, and discipline to pick your spots.. thats a great trait to be successful in tournaments congrats on your 2nd place finisih

The same answer in any situation - it depends.

In a tournament, JJ vs a likely calling range of KQ, AK AQ - only has 60% equity - barely better than a coin flip.

Your equity vs a range of QQ - AA is only 10% - and with those premium hands included - your total equity VS his calling range is only about 32%! So unless it's a multiway pot where your being given 2-1 pot odds for your shove - it's a losing play in the longrun to shove your jacks. When your called your most often dominated or a marginal favorite!

I rarely 3bet my jacks- preferring to call. They are a good hand, and having to fold them preflop to a 4bet is a disaster - yet alone a light 4bet with 9s-10s.

Risking my tournament standing even as a 60 - 40 favorite is stupid IMO - there are way better spots to get your money in.

I just saw a guy shove 83 off suit in a tournament like this in the SB trying to steal the big blind around the bubble. I don't see why everyone here sees that as a good fold, jacks are an instant call there. Like someone else said, AJ, A10, and small pairs are all a possibility and there's no way you're behind.

Yeah Im thinking that I should have called ...my gut put him on a week ace I see this so much where people will shove sb trying to steal bb with a weak ace.I definatly feel I made a bad fold and I probably would have won that tournament...I just like to learn from my mistakes and I think if he did have a monster hand aa,qq,kk,ak,aq he most likely wouldnt have pushed all in because you want a call in that situation hu.More like a massage bet is what he most likely would have done...thanks for the feedback.

I believe that JJ maybe the toughest hand to play. I think it was a good fold on your part. He also had a premium hand.

i think u gotta call with jacks there, if your just trying to move up the money ladder then its a fold otherwise its a pretty standard call i thnk, especially given the fact the blinds were 400 800. Moreover, you say that its likely a race situation, which it could be, but imo you could also be way ahead. Given you have no information about this player, i think its safe to say that an avg player in that spot could jam 77-1010, A8-AJ, or even less than these hands.

I think you better shove here. I think that most of the time you will be way ahead.

According to position and chip stack would make my decision what to do with pocket jacks. last night i was in a tourney had 900 chips with blinds at 200 and 400 and i shoved all with pocket jacks. Rivered the trip jacks.

if he just shoves like that on you in that possitions i can almost gt u he had aa or kk fold was good

I say its a good fold, even though you had him covered, a loss puts you almost out of it. its just a tough spot because he literally could be pushing with anything and since you have no info on him, anything you put him on would just be a random guess. Even if your right and he pushed a weak ace trying to buy your blind, losing those 800 chips is a lot better than almost all your stack because if he hits this post would have been a lot different. instead of asking if you made the right move you'd be talking about how you made a good call and got donked out because he pushed with A 2 and hit... personally though I think at best you were in a race, i think he had QQ and pushed thinking he's ahead if you call but trying not to let you hit something

jj is probably one of toughest hands to play lol

they stood up enough 4 me 2 call an all in,pocket 8's is another story

I dont like the fold but what I dislike more is the show.

Folding was a no brainer there. Why risk so much of your stack sitting in first. Even if you had him dominated he could have still gotten lucky.

8 out of 10 times I lose, but if the pot is big, I take the risk

yes, specially on 10-seat tables. I usually go in at 6-seat tables. You got more chances there.

better to fold a good hand than play a bad one, sounds like you were on a table of idiotsz that see a pocket pair and cum in there trousers you played it safe and i commend you for that, next time though dont show your hand if your gunna fold like tht
