Fun steps promotion @ Carbon

Anyone play the fun-steps? I love when sites offer opportunities for players to free-roll into the cash games. I like challenges like these also because they give you a good outlet to get action without putting your bankroll at risk when you know your off your game at the moment, like when your on tilt from a beat on a cash table or buy-in tourney. Times like those cost otherwise frugal players alot of money if they aren't disciplined enough to stop when they are running bad. I want to play when I want to play, so I play these when I don't think my A-game is possible. I have been saving up my step-3s for a rainy day. I think the step-3s will play like a $10sng because the players will mostly be broke seats trying to get on-site.

I have played the funsteps, and have won a dollar once from it as well. The first step is a donkfest to the extreme more often than not, just be warned.

Yeah me included, lolz. Kinda fun actually. I put up all 10 tables I can get tickets for that day, and play it like an all-in-or-fold pushing big PPs and AJ-AK til its 4-5 handed. Step-2 is more like a low buy-in SNG, kind of a mixed bag. I find the 2nd step to be the hardest because of this inherent lack of consistancy in the player quality.

Played them hard until i found pokerowned ~much saner way to build a bankroll ~ not like i have one ~ but i could Attachment 1714

The best way is to play all of your step 1s for 5 days or so and get like 10-30 step 2 tickets. then play ur step 2s get 5-25 step 3s. I have made like 35 dollars off this strategy. I currently have 10 step 2s im gonna play tonight prolly. Send me a P.M. with any questions.

Yeah PO will always get credit for being my new jump-off. I really think this is a useful site. However the forum needs more relevant poker content, seems like a lot of people post for the points.

Step 2 is more of a good game, but you still have some of the donks from step one that got huge chip leads first hand with crap hands mixed in. Step 3 is usually a really good game, most of the complete donks were already busted by that time.

I played those and the regular carbon freerolls until I had around $20. Thought that was enough to build off of in microstakes and sure enough lost it in a couple of hours. Now I know better... I should have waited until I had $25. LoL

Were you playing .02/.04? Thats a big loss at micro, prolly just got unlucky.

I really like this promotion, I have been playing the Pokeowned freerolls and the funsteps as I have been waiting for 4 weeks for my $900 cash-out to process - it is fun and has no risk.

I've played them before and I should start playing them again. If I can motivate myself to start playing them again I will play them until I get my BR up to $20. I'm sitting at $14 right now.

ive played them alot when i first joined carbon but the step 1s are aggravating because of the allins with any 2 cards ive saw some crazy things happen the first hand of these, then the step 2 are a lil better but still some foolish plays, but i agree the step 3s tend to be more solid play mostly because of what people delt with in step 1 and 2 to get to 3 so they play better to earn that dollar

seems like a lot of work just to win a dollar. i would prefer to just earn points and play the freerolls

I played them 2 years ago until I won my first $1 then found PO was a lot easier to win monies!!!

I won a dollar once on sportsbook. That was like 8 years ago

I've never won anything...Oh, wait, maybe a soccer trophy...nah, that's not it

Yes! I've won like $10-12 in them. They're really easy to dominate.

the all ins are a killer in step one but better than loosing money

I played them a bit..not a fan, PO much better!

I use to play fun steps I want a little bit of moneyh

I used to play those, but decided it really wasn't worth the headache or my time.

No. You will find the funsteps SNGs in the "play money" section under "sit and gos". You can buy a step1 ticket for 250 play chips from the "promotions" tab at the top of Carbons main lobby.

I played the funsteps when I was on another Merge site that didn't offer as many freerolls. Not worth the time and frusration when there are a lot more freeroll options on Carbon.

I am not positive but I believe the coupons expire after 7 days. So hopefully that rainy day is soon.

I wouldn't walk away completely. I do the same thing, but I keep an eye on them until either the bubble hits, or my stack goes below 700.

They aren't, unless you figure this. You get 10 funstep coupons a day. You can play all these games at once if you want. Funsteps are a donk fest, and playing tight works well. You can play all 10, collect your step two coupons and leave em in your account. You can keep as many step 2's as you want. Save em for the end of the week.

Keep doing this for a month. At the end of each week turn your step twos into step 3s. At the end of the month, take your step 3's and turn em into dollars. You can save up as many as 300 step 3's, but more realistically you can do a solid 100 no problem.


Playing them one at a time, and not in bulk is no good. What are you going to do with just a dollar? Not much. But 10 or 15 dollars you can get something going with.

My point exactly. Very little time investment. People consider this free $12-$20 a month a waste of time, yet they grind themselves to the nub chasing rake-bonuses. lol

i used that strategy lion, i did that.. on about 20 merge sites a year ago, no point tho because it takes days to play all the step 3's u get from doing this strategy in steps 1 and 2

I've been playing a lot of these lately as I've banned myself from the grownups table until I feel like I'm playing my A game again. It is really nice to be able to walk away from a SNG if you get bored without feeling like you just flushed your buyin.

The trick to Funstep 1 IMO is to wait for a monster, jam, double up, and do it again. Now, sit out and do something else, like another Funstep. 4000 or so chips should get you in the top 3, i.e. a ticket to Funstep 2. I always screw myself my getting a dominating chip lead, and blowing it, forgetting that my goal is not to win, but to place 3rd.

These are not bad to play, just step1 is a huge donkfest

the fun steps are an easy way to build a bankroll!! and they are fast and easy!!!

I've won $22 in the Funsteps, but widely spaced - problem is, the games you can play with that amount of money are pretty much the same level of donkfest as a FS1, and I never seem to have the patience to wait until I've built up a big enough bankroll. One time I took the $1 from FS3 and built it up to $56... then pissed it away playing higher stakes than I should have with that BR. Obviously my BR management needs some work....
