Florida Votes Down Online Poker

With a vote of 2-2, the Senate Criminal Justice Committee in Florida votes down online poker in the The Sunshine State and so goes $10.5 million in taxable revenue a year.

Sen. Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, Republican rep from Miami "What we're trying to do here is create Florida intrastate poker network and do it with Florida companies with regulations here, protecting from identify theft and protecting the consumer, and having revenue go to the state," he explained to the Senate Criminal Justice Committee.

Bill SB812 was opposed by the Florida Sheriff’s Association and the Poker Players Alliance.
If the bill had went through it would ban competition from offshore poker sites.

So not all votes against online poker are a bad thing. State controlled monopolies would be against the freedoms all Americans fight for and want. Also, intra-state poker would limit the social aspect that we get to enjoy here.

i like to play online even it's a little scary about account's,hackers can stole a lot of money from a site better than u play at a table when u see your money built in front of your face ,and your desicion is pretty safety

I think they will end up having to legalize a portion of online gaming. Not to say they won't diddlef!*k around wasting years and millions of dollars placating the over zealous religious right that would consider this a sin...regardless of gamblings' acceptance in their own book. I just don't expect it soon!!!!

yeah the reason they did that is because this bill was favorint the dog tracks and such, wouldnt let outside sites get in on it. ps paid for votes to knock it down,

the whole online in the usa thing is going to make billions for whoever gets it done, that is why casions and companies scrambling to get in on it

I live in tampa, the hard rock has bee nice to play at since the laws changed, now we have no limit cash and good tournies, come one down fellas

Poker should be legal to everyone in the United States, why just Florida is a bill being passed to banned poker

I am a Fla native that lives I on the east coast of Fla (West Palm Bch) area. There is quite a few places to go play live poker/casinos around here, Miami, Coconut Grove. Okeechobee, West Palm Dog Track. Immokalee...I think our new governor wants to legalize through out the state..That would be the states way of trying to get some of the gambling money away from the area Indian tribes who are making a killing...

Its a given the majority of states want to legalize poker for the tax money, I can't think of 1 states that is not running a deficit so they do need the money. However, having only state run online poker is telling the rest of the world to F-Off.

This is why the Poker Players Alliance want a federal bill to online poker, then intra-state regulations, to allow everyone to play poker together. Individual states have tried segregation before with other things, it never works out in the end.

I still find it hard to grasp how frowned upon gambling is in america. Horse racing and gambling on it is prob biggest hobby in ireland. the same goes for sports betting and poker. I couldnt even imagine the government trying to stop people from doing it. A few years back we used to have to pay tax when placing bets but it caused so much confusion the bookies just paid the tax to keep everyone happy.

yes we want federal bill...............the land of the free................tell us what we can do on line?(several house/senate have went on record)they know it isnt criminal)..............i think we should b able to brush up on our poker skills or turn a 600 profit..................if it goes over a grand..............ffs................we will pay the greedy fuckers.

Prawney you make a very good point, I mean I grew up in South Florida where we had Jai Lai and Dog Tracks (Greyhound Racing). Which by the way has been in operation forever!!!! I live on the East Coast just North of West Palm & at the Palm Bch Kennnel Club has poker rooms that are open 7 days a wk., on the weekends 24hrs....In fact they are hosting some big Holdem Tournaments there...I think some WSOP qualifiers.
So I guess my point is maybe Fla. doesn't want to allow Poker to be played online because they might loose some revenue...

not sure how some want poker to be legalized yet its on a state by state basis

at least florida will have more retired folx in mobile homes, piece of crap state

I love playing poker online,,, Do you really think those people really know what their voters really want. That would be a big "HELL NO".
