hmm interesting. poker has taken a small hit from this... main even missing ivey and brunson, two of the most recognizable poker plyrs around
Yeah, it does not feel like Independence Day with the reduction of poker rooms available to a supposedly free citizenry. Our government sure has used the Patriot Act in a way which is run more like a police state than a free country.
The fact that Doyle is in his late 70's and in poor health is probably a major factor in his decision.
Doyle probably doesn't have the energy like he use to, last year he didn't look that good. Plus with everything going on, there are a lot of professionals not going to the WSOP
Maybe Doyle will become a commentator like Gabe Kaplan or Mike Sexton for a Poker Show
I don't think Doyle would make a very good commentator. He seems to like to keep his thoughts pretty close to the vest.
He could have an "IV" of Red Bull set up next to the table,,, that would keep him going for awhile...
well i think the old part has a factor to this, but iam sure his son will be there not liek that matters he not as good as his father anyways. the lost of ivey and doyle are big lost for wsop but iam sure not too many i wsop will miss them. i personal think the black friday has effected alot of professional poker players in many ways. But give it time and it will all be back just takes time.
Thats crazy when did he announce that
Doyle is a tired old man. He was and is a truly great poker player, but let him go home to his sprawling home in Texas and relax.
maybe he said ,,man i'm getting too old for this s*it'' :D,jk
weird though
Surprised he isn't playing , but as people are saying he's alot older than most and the main event is a very long session. Plus it's bingo anyway, some random nobody will get lucky and win.
I guess he changed his mind ....
Less than a week ago, Brunson announced he would not play in the Main Event. At the urging of friends like three-time bracelet winner Dewey Tomko, Brunson decided to change course Wednesday evening.
“Do I feel good? No,” Brunson tweeted. “Do I want to play? No. Am I playing my best? No. Am I gonna try my best? Damn right.”
Brunson failed to make it to the dinner break after an opponent’s Ace-Queen out-flopped his pocket 5s. An estimated 30 percent of the field will meet their demise before reaching Day 2.

Fuckin govt is in serious debt, and are too stupid to see the enormous tax revenue they could generated through these poker sites. Control is more importants than the well being of the country and its citizens. Poker doesnt kill people but alcohol and tobacco does, yet they dont ban these items, which are also a burden to the healthcare system fuckin Obama boy so desperatley wants "fix". gov't needs to get its head out of its ass.....
Hmm well at least he admits he's not playing his best probably why he doesn't want to. like everyone is saying about the age. I wouldn't want to drag on playing if I'm not in my prime game anymore or feel I'm gonna ruin my name eh idk. well anyways Doyle was great sad to see he won't be playing.
oh well alot of pros didnt play this year but not many pros win it either
I know theres no age limit,
but PLEASE, that dude must be 200 years old,
Sad to think he would still want to use his last moments of life
to get beat by some 20 year old DONK.
