Tough Loss in Live Tournament.

First let me set the scene. My Nephew, Niece and I went to Winstar Casino to play in a $60 buy-in Tournament. Start with 5,000 chips with 20 minute blinds. There are 160 players and it pays 16 spots with $2200 going to winner. my Nephew goes out before first break, Niece goes out before second break.

Coming back from second break I have right at 3,000 chips and the blinds are 1,000 and 500. Third hand back I get pocket 9's so I go all in with 2 callers. My 9's hold up, now setting on 10,000 in chips. Two hands later I'm on the button, UTG raises to 3500, one caller in front of me. I go all in and both call me. There's now more than 30,000 chips in the pot. I roll over my pocket Aces, UTG 10/J suited and the other player has pocket Queens. So for all you guys who think bad stuff only happens on-line, yep player catches another Queen and I finish 49th. Out the door I go. Average chip stack is around 15,000 at that time, So I "Would" have had double the average. That's poker.

Needless to say that one stung for a bit. Take care y'all

also, note that a majority of the players who claim online is rigged are losing players. Even if people are cheating and the software is not a legit dealer - good consistent playing and being observant can overcome it. Excluding the UB-Absolute scandal of course.

That's not that bad of a bad beat at least it wasn't a lost to the j 10 then that's a bad beat.

I know. never said it was a bad beat, just a tough loss.

i got eaten alive in my first live tournament, much tougher than online

I have been sucked out on and have sucked out on others many times. All I can say is beats are a part of the game and if people have not learned to deal with it then you should probably stop playing poker immediately. It sucks to loose but as long as you are a progressive player you learn from the mistakes other make and simply become better at it, just like any other sport practice makes perfect.

I never said it doesn't happen in live events. I just know that it doesn't happen as often. There was nothing either one of you could do at that point. I don't blame him for calling and I don't blame you for pushing. It is just a poker thing there. It is not like the J-10 suited caught runner runner for a flush to beat you both like what would happen online. Better luck next time.

I sure hope the "YOU", you are referring to, is not me. I've played close to 3 million hands, yes that's 3,000,000 online in the last 10 years. So I'm very much aware of the ups and downs. If you were thinking I was saying it was a bad beat ,then you may want to read my response above in post #5 in this thread. If you are under the age of 35, I was probably playing poker before your daddy was born.

I was just sharing my experience of playing. And the let down after the loss. If you notice the last statement said, it stung for a bit. I wrote this 2 hours after the it happened and was already moving on. So before your "THIRD" post you may want to choose to read the thread closely before making a blanket statement.

I appreciate you sharing this story because I believe that just as many bad beats happen live as online. Players don't notice it because they occur less often (as you play more hands per hour online) and less frequently because online players most often play more than live players.

I did that to someone with AA and I held pocket 2s on a live game. He slow rolled with AA and shoved into my trips on the river. Tough for him but it happens online or live poker.

I never said it doesn't happen in live events. I just know that it doesn't happen as often. There was nothing either one of you could do at that point.

so average stack after 2nd break was 15 bb's? i dont think i would care for that structure very much.

I hear you,,, it makes it hard to cash... A guy better be stacked pretty good coming back from 2nd break.

thats why i dont like tourneys they do sting alot when you lose like that

yea people that complain about online being rigged r always losing players!

????? why is it any worse of a bad beat to lose to the J10 suited? They're both roughly the same odds to suck out on AA.

So rig...live poker is so rig why would you want to play?

You want action with the AA, but not too much, eh? Sucks to lose to a 2-outer like that.

6 outs vrs 2 outs dont sound roughly same to me LOL Altho im not quite understanding J10 in there. I do understand you want to be in a multi pot but not really for your turny life? How many chips did J10 have?

I couldn't agree more about the majority of cry baby's are the LOSING players, they shove all in with garbage and cry about getting knocked out, or they get lucky and catch something and for a few hands they think they are poker gods...but they RARELY make the final table.

Wagon that is a tough loss, and you are so right about it happening live, happens all the time. Keep grinding though, there's always another chip and chair somewhere!

Nobody that claims online poker is rigged ever gives a reason for why it would be beneficial to the companies to rig the games. This is especially true at the low limits that most people complaining play at because there is not the incentive structure to produce cheating like in the UB-Absolute scandal.

Ouch, my last game live I was koed by ak with poket aa...it did sting quite abit as I lost a 4th of my stack in a cash game.

they rig the low limits to maximize the rake that they can collect. Love them rake flop set up bullshit so people can push all in and all the rake go to the house.

Gotta be happy with that play though. I would much rather lose like that than going out on a terrible call by myself.
