Are the Pokerowned Tournaments becoming Crapshoots?

I will be honest, I haven't played in a little while on here, life's decided to fill up most of my time, but I have comeback and played some tournaments.

In these I have observed on numerous occasions people shoving with card values lower than dirt, in abhorrent spots, just in general a lack of understanding of the game; I emphasize I AM NOT speaking about a loose-aggressive style of play, that is perfectly legitimate, I am talking about utter stupidity.

Here's the Catch: I witness an endless number of suckouts and badbeats on people who had dominating hands! Not to say Carbon poker is rigged, it is the simple fact of the massive volume of the type of player I mentioned before, more volume=more suckouts.

I was chatting it up with my buddy Donmega in my last tournament, when I was knocked out in 7th, I had played about 5 hands out of 80! Just out of fear of the endless hand range our players exhibit.

P.S: Not to mention the increasing volume of players in our tournies, it is much too large.

QUESTION: Are the Pokerowned Tournaments becoming Crapshoots?:confused:


MY OPINION: In some ways, yes. Not to say we don't have some really solid players, but they are becoming vastly outnumbered in what Donmega so eloquently entitled
" THE DONKFEST "

My Opinion on the best way to win if this so called " Donkfest " is true, play with a VERY limited hand range, and be prepared to use that fold button A LOT, you want to avoid races, you might end up having one, but try to limit the number of races you have, and you'll see more success. DO NOT GET SUCKED UP IN THE DONKFEST!

Haha this is a good post GottimHimmel! Suckout are happening far too often lately. Its ruining the game of poker.

well tbh,, yes they are defo like that,, BUT the rest of merge tournryesss are like that a lot too tho:( sad to say. I played in 2 touneys tnite, one 5 dolla buy in and one a little smaller. AND the hand range and donkness was out in full force and i got donked bad all nite tnite in my tourneys. what can i u do when peole w ant to call 1500 in a tourney with ACE 2 off and u have AK suited and they hit ace and 2:( and then u have ace 10 suited and they have ace 9 off and hot ace 9:( this was happpening to me all nite tnite,, and simialr hands a lot too. i think people know how it ison merge a lot,, so they are willing to play real bad and know they mite get lucky or they just stupid,, lolol theres a lot of both on merge tho,,, so i think the PO frerolllls are allll relative toooo,, and a frerolll too, so even worse tho tooo hehe.. so GLGL t ya, u defo neeed it:)

Rrickir, like i said, that's why with a good combo of bankroll management, and an old-fashioned tight-aggressive playing style, success will increase. Once you can secure a couple easy double ups, it is as easy as waiting on the top tier hands, and only playing those. Leave the fancy loose-aggressiveness to the pros! They all advocate playing tight as the best fallback.

Spoken like a true solid player! I envy your patience and will power to play that way because the donks have made me play like a maniac lately, but you are right.. it is absolutely the only way to play if you want to survive on here these days, unless you have that donkey angel on your shoulder working miracles for you, that is. Your article above is as good as the advice articles the pro's shared at Fulltilt Poker Academy... (0= Very good advice & thanks for sharing! Good luck at the tables.

freeroll play is much different then money play for quite a few people ... 145 points is basically a few cents

yeah but what i dont understand is if your going to spend the time playing why not give it ur best shot regardless of buyin? Its not much different at the $10 to $20 games either. Beside if you dont have millions(of dollars) backing you whats the point of being loose/aggro?

Lulabell you flatter me, thanks for the kind words, personally I don't understand the " it's only a few cents anyhow " argument, but that's just me.

I don't agree with the "it's only a few cents" either. I try to treat all tournaments the same regardless of the buy in.
tbh the crap shooters don't bother me too much, I play tight anyway, but it can be frustrating when QQ+ gets called by some gross rags and they hit 2 pair, but the majority of the time you should come out ahead.

I also don't think that any freerolls exist that don't have some players with that mentality.

Fact: 89.5% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

If you are running a hud, you will clearly see that this is not the case, it just seems like it sometimes.

freerolls are just practice but still you need to play the best you can

I think we are always going to have to deal with suckouts. As many of you know I'm a very tight player,,,yet I still get sucked out on, with me having the better starting hand,,,the best I (we) can do is get all our chips in with best hand and then we are all along for the ride. Just my thoughts

yep they have become more of a donkfest..its all good though..the good thing about a good player is they make adjustments to their game when the time is needed..

Yeah people can be a bit to results orientated. All you can hope to do is get your chips in the pot ahead. Even if u suffer a suckout, in the long run you will end up in profit.

Yeah I do suffering in the chips while playing PO freerolls, but that's way I usually end up in Final Table.
Even thought you sitting below 2k starting stack for a long time waiting for hands.
I usually try to play flops when I get a hand and hits, I think last time I got suckout was KK vs A6. He had flop a pair of 6. I call him all the the way and he it's 6 on the river.
I don't want to push all in on the flop becuase usually there is people that sitting with a better hand.

So you are complaining you have easier opponents? Don't see why you would ... and as the field is getting bigger , so is the prize. weekly $75 freeroll now , and the $30 freerolls at night.

Even though I find it hard to get to the final table now because of the big field I don't think it's because there are to many donks ... it's just harder of a grind.

Suckouts happen, that's poker. I prefer to play with donks, in the long run the quality player will win more.

donk favored software is what merge is all about. live with it or leave it. lol

I agree but also its because the sneaks are changing the playing field agree!

Yes, but getting 35 points just for entering a tourney that would anyways have sneaks IS AWESOME

I don't know how much live poker you guys play, but when we get new players in my live poker games I also see this kind of thing. you have to realize that this is a freeroll and people are going to play a lot looser than they normally would. I have come to realize that all you can do is play your best game (whether it the best out there or not) and accept the fact that you can't beat stupid. I have come to accept 3 ways of finishing a tourney. First, winning. Second, blinding out. Third, a bad beat. If you played your cards and you played them well and some donk sucks out on you, there isn't anything you can do about it. YOU CAN'T BEAT STUPID!!!!!!

Drivembig you're right in almost all of that, I just want to remind you guys that many people put bets on the tournament, making it meaning more to them than others

I want to play the best I can in freerolls, low buy in mtts etc. Practice for when my BR is large enough to play bigger tourneys. Regardless of opp play, I am in charge of my chips & what I do with them :)

You know the funny thing though...alot of people play like donks in high stakes games too I notice

I would not go as far as to say it has become a "crap-shoot". True it is not like some other Private tourneys... but what can you expect to get when it is a freeroll.

What I find more aggravating is the negative down talk on the tables... especially the final table I was at today... Remember, it is a GENTLEMEN'S GAME... If you went in (not pointing any fingers) to a casino poker room and touted off at the mouth like that (which is illegal to do; make threats or make another player feel in dangers way ie: Phil Hellmuth) they would kindly throw you head first through the back door and tell you to stay away for your own good... This just coming from someone that LIVES in Vegas... well North Las Vegas ;)

if ur going to go into the game to be a donk azz maybe u shouldnt play
as for the amout of peeps in the game its still pretty low considering
just gets bad that peeps cant keep their childish mouths shut and just play

I think there becoming more challenging but tht could be considered more fun for some ppl!
