How can this be a good strategy? I know many of us do this, but how can it be good?

I guess its good bc if u get lucky u could achieve a large stack to start!
It usually isn't. :P There are exceptions, but yeah, I'm not a fan.
lol, dont seem like a good idea to me! I can understand gambling a bit more early on in re-buys but playing bad just isnt the best of idea's for winnings mtt's!
It's an awful strategy. In the long run you can't win using it.
How different is this to playing LAG in early tournament? Your not playing bad to reenter, you're playing loose and have buyins to reenter if your bluff/implied odds based push is called and you fade the board....see its all in how you look at it  and depending on how aggressively(or standard TAG/etc) you play AFTER your first double is more a determination of how good/bad you are playing, I don't particularly like this strategy, but as a frequent late entry player, i see the value in it
Can't say can't - I see people doing it all the time and some of them make it to the final table. However, I see many more of them with a string of re-entries (you can see these if you go to the tourney lobby and sort by name) dumping 5, 6, 7 or more rebuys in such that they have to make it to the top 10 to just break even, much less profit - and most of them do not make it to the top 10.
you guys need to learn that poker is more than just playing cards
Yes, pokeYourFace is right, u gotta make sure ur clicking properly, ur internet is up to par, and make sure u miss a few hands for food here and there. waiting, calling , rushing a fold. all are actually really good elements is online poker. If he was speaking for real in person live poker. His statement is very well said.
gotta love the players who dont pay attention to when the rebuys or re-entries are over. feels good to be sittin with a bigstack and watch all these players shove wit crap to try an dbl up while the prizes keep rising
Playing a little looser isnt bad in that situation ..... obviously "bad" is dumb though
Then fold, no one MAKES you call with high PP/AK or AQ, but id rather have these people play the way they do and get my money in good, more often then not thats a boon not a bad thing.
The best thing I can say is, this makes the game a LOT easier, not harder. Your choices to play the hand or not just got REAL simple, so take advantage of this situation, or fall behind the rest that are adjusted to this play
This is honestly one of the best ways to build your stack in a microstake MTT. More often than not, I can grow a 10K stack into a 30K stack early on by abusing the people who think all-inning with any hand to steal blinds and double up on what they're hoping is a coinflip. Half these people are only playing that way in hopes that every one else at the table will play the same way.
well, I could go either way with this strategy. It CAN work - but there's a few things to consider if this is what you're going to do.
1 Playing "badly" - advertising - is something that works only against familiar opponents. If you bust out with 5-8 suited, the only value you have is that some more sensible players at the table will be more likely to call you when you have a premium hand, remembering that you push with trash. If you rebuy and get put on another table, they won't remember your play and your advertising is essentially wasted.
2. understand that you will get no respect and very little chance of getting away with bluffs.
3. This strategy will give you higher variance - so its more likely to give you a monster stack early, but you'll be busting out a bunch more, so be ready to have the sufficient BR to back it up.
I am not sure how this can be productive to your game but I guess I have a lot more to learn cause I am the one usually rebuying into tourney anyway. lol
Ive only done this on freerolls between acr and bcp lol.. i never have enough money to buy in constantly
Hate those tourneys.
In rebuy I tend to be alittle more lose in the begining, pushing all in with AJ or Suited connectors, cause when you do hit you will atleast tripple your stack, then you just wait for the blinds to go up and begin taking down the turney
They may be going off of variance. If they have had a lot of losses or run of bad hands, some feel playing the odds that it is their time to hit works for them. It dont always work, not everyone has good timing.
I might do this every now and then, if my bankroll allows and its a small buy in tourney
This is why I fuckin hate Re-buy games. They can go suck a titty
I do it mostly due to not controlling my mood when everyone is hitting on shit hands or my shit hand would have won a big pot, still not a good strategy for positive results in long run.
I guess with rebuys and add ons it can make sense if you are hovering low, but playing slightly looser is prob best.
