well one thing about poker is.. you cannot be emotional. emotions will ruin ur game. same with ego.
also if you are playing well within your BR limit then theres really no reason to get pissed losing in a game that cost only a fraction of ur BR
esp if its a freeroll. be expected to get badbeat.
i gues it really just takes time.. over time ull care less if u get donked. cause youll be a winning player overall. and just know the donks arent.
The last thing you want to do is play pokwe while u are mad. Beats happen and are apart of th game
If you\'re on tilt, play some play money until you calm down before you return to real money.
The thing im going to work on is venting my displeasure or angry venting..It usually doesnt affect my game but most of the suckouts against me are the ones that take me out lol The thing that bothers me is when im trying to vent it out and someone chimes in against my position. I let that get to me and my vent turns into a angry rant for more time then it should.. I will be working on this ALOT harder cause even tho this is a poker forum where you expect people to feel your pain and let you "get it out", it just doesnt happen. Some one says something against me and then its on as i have taken it very personal. Which im going to try and learn to let it go when someone wants to confront me about the vent.
If a bad beat causes you to lose it at the table and you always start pushing trash cause you tilted, then maybe after you take one get up and walk around your chair or stick your head outside for a breath of fresh air or even make a sticky note and put it to where you can see it that says something to remind you not to get too pissed and start pushing.
abwil is far to emotional for the game and seems to see the beat as a personal attack on him (sorry dude but u do)
trick is to try not to go all in unless you have the nuts (easier said than done granted)
its never to late to fold in my opinion and ive made many comebacks after losing a big chunk of my stack
rule 1 "id rather fold a good hand than play a bad one"
Hitman there are a couple things in which cause u to go on tilt and for all these so called "PRO'S" answering you telling you not to get emotional yadda yadda even some of the "REAL Pro's" go on tilt over the same issues. How do you prevent getting emotional is the question you are really asking up top. However here are the questions I think you should work on and answer, and if you play poker deep down the answers are really there you just have to utilize them.....So here we go.....Am I playing a game that is Benefiting me? When I get called out on a bluff whats the FIRST thing I Should do? Bankroll Management: Am I aware what my Bankroll is? Am I playing a game that I can afford? Am I playing a Freeroll? Am I playing a game for 15 hours for $7 or $7k (in other words is the game profitable?)? Also you are playing a Computer generated card game....VARIANCE will ALWAYS play a factor online you just have to learn when to spot it and when to slow up on your bankroll or risk it when the time is right! Emotions will always be part of the game, as a woman in poker ive been called just about everything in the book, threatened, robbed, broke down emotionally, physically, and mentally. If I allowed every twit to get into my head dear I wouldnt be where I am today. I allow people to play their style, we may not always agree with it LOL (Many Many times I dont) its their style and like "Bad Habits" we all form them at some point in our lives. You have to learn to spot peoples "Bad Habits" and use them against them. If you play poker and get a bad beat then you are definatly playing "REAL POKER"! Learning how to lose gracefully is probably the hardest thing to learn in poker. However, Learning how to lose will make you a profitable player.
xanax...lots of xanax
ANother thing to remember, is a 'Donk' hand to you, is a good earner to someone else who may have had reason to be in the hand. People forget that connectors are a viable hand, especially if i see a standard solid raise, say 3 or 4x the BB, with 2 callers and a think about it fold. If I'm sitting on the button and see tha, my thoughts are 2 hands are decent ace+kicker, and one hand is mid hi pair....9s tens maybe. If the flop comes in my draw range for 78 suited.... i"m only really worried about that pair hitting trips, but I should know from the bets. Are they continuation bets from the aces, with a 3x reraise.....OK the boy hit his trips and I can run, or still gamble on my possible str8. Just because my hand started weak, doesn't mean that after the flop and the action on the flop, that I have a junk hand.....now depending on suits and reads from action, I'm possibly 2nd best % ......donk hands aren't always as donk as people think!!!!
And when you've absorbed all of this, go with FAQdumass.....better poker equilibrium through chemistry....lol
LOL @ xanax shhh you cant give away ALL the secrets :D
wow, thanks for the input :) , i will try to take onboard what you guys have said
These answers are all good. I do the same thing when I get mad and flustered.
You can't stop tilting per say, but you can mitigate the damage by reverting to a tight game, entering fewer pots, not pushing pre flop, and only pushing post flop when you think you have or are close to having the nuts. The biggest way to reduce tilting is to remove bluffing from your game until you feel the mojo again.
Take a break, play a ring game.
tilting happens to everyone, try to lessen it for improvement, by taking breaks after a game or so..relax and come back clear minded
Good downers might help.....
Play decent and respectable hands. Then maybe you will win more.
stop tilting = stop playing
it does take alot of discipline to stop tilting. It helps to take time before plays.
when you find yourself getting really angry, just gather yourself and breath in and out deeply saying, "Woooosa woooosa." It works...
i think you're right...emotions cand make you to loose a final table, like me...:p
tilting is tough because you get so angry you dont think straight and start to play bad
stop playing , take a break, play video game or something that you can win or excel on so you feel a sense of achievement or accomplishment then just relax a while. The game helps me to not force action plus I get to shoot people so gets aggression out. I\'ve had to take a 2 week break before my mental thinking got so screwed up. Trust me even 30 min away can make huge difference just to refresh your mind.
When I start to tilt, I stop playing. If I\'m getting tilty durring a tournament I try and cool off on the breaks. Step outside, have a cigarette. Do whatever relaxes you. Reboot and get back at it.
i\'d take a break for an hour or more maybe a day then comeback with a fresh attitude
When I get donked I go have sex and clear my mind and come back and usually play better.
HHHHHHMMMMMMMM I agree with acesup!!!! That usually works!
Ctrl Alt Delete would be my solution or lots of alcohol. Seriously as I saw one of azreal\'s responses he is right never to late to fold. I have come back with only 500 chips at a FT and won. It can happen.
As far as stopping tilting, well even the Pro\'s have their moments. As a player you want to understand at some points we are going to have wicked beats, and if they happen often that is a downswing. We all go through them, just got to plug along through them. GL
i have a knack for tilting, after about 10 st8 suck outs, it takes a few of those in a row to start getting to me. But I can usually play through it and let my instincts and know how take over. But if it gets bad, and i know it when i truly make bad reads and just not reading texture of the board or anything, basically i put my chips in good and sometimes i lose. But when i am not getting my chips in bad and my bluffs aren\'t even making sense to me, I log out and listen to some music, music is really the only thing besides gripping a baseball with different pitch grips, but in the house me and a ball are not a good idea.
calm down and change playing style if necessary!
I think you have to take an emotional step back. You\'re too emotionally invested in the game. Remind yourself it\'s just a game.
Simple answer: Don't risk money you can't afford to lose, bankroll management.
