I can't believe nobody has mentioned the best and first of the true genre as it is today: Texas Chainsaw Massacre #1. Nothing else even comes close. Also, from the 60's and 70's the most horrific horror films were 10,000 Maniacs and Blood Feast. I'll bet nobody here has seen them but if you can find them and rent them you would see that they were the precursors of Saw, F-day 13th, Halloween and others. Another GREAT horror film was Basket Case. Try them out folks, they will blow you away, especially when you consider their content for the time, compared to what was main stream acceptable.
