Poker Life

We all strive to be the best that we can at something, but in Poker there is a long road of speed bumps, potholes and road blocks along the way. We've all had our fair share of disappointments and success. To some it is merely just a simplistic card game, to others it is a rabbit hole with maddening complexity. The further you go down the rabbit hole the more you learn about things you never knew before about game like theory, mathematics, psychology, bankroll management, analyzing lines of play, variance etc. I'm not just talking about reading about each individual topic, I mean being able to teach someone easily who doesn't know about each one so that they will understand, that means you correctly understand it. They are the Ingrediants of Poker.

"You're not good until you get good enough to realize that you weren't good"... Once you make this realization the only way to go is up. Because you are no longer playing off Skill, you have gained Experiance. Now you are using Skill+Experiance to play correctly in situations that before you weren't familiar with. This usually takes years of playing, winning, losing, traveling to diff casinos, east coast to west coast, moving up levels, challenging yourself and proving those who doubted you wrong from the start. There is nothing more disappointing then someone in your family telling you that you're no good at poker to try and protect you from in their eyes what they see as "Gambling" and being afraid youll lose all your money because to them the value of a dollar is based on an Hourly wage... Unfortunately they are the same ones that after you make it pat you on the back tell you how great you are and that they knew you would make it. Negitivity and failure is something that they will project onto you because they would hate to see YOU be successful at something that potential could make you alot of money n success over then long term. (Or more money then them) Usually those people are ones that hate their jobs or lives and become envious of your success.

Traveling the poker tournament circuit in chase of a Big score is more then just playing a game. It is LIVING life the way it's ment to be lived, seen thru your eyes, experianced. people will not understand what it is that you are doing (except other circuit players) But the reality is that you are living a certain lifestyle and working towards a goal that you set. The experiences, places seen, people met, time spent alone, money spent, money earned, hotels and random motels, planes, trains and buses taken are all part of the Experiance. At the end you will always end up back at home to decompress mentally and rebuild all your energy and never underestimate the comfort of sleeping in your own bed. Planning out your next few months of travel, tournament entry costs and casinos you'll be at in your log book gets the minds gears turning wondering if you will run good and cash, final table, or come up short near the bubble. But the one thing youll always know is there is another tournament to be played soon regardless of the outcome of one event. The tournament grind is a year round endeavor and it is based on yearly results. Those of us who push themselves beyond all criticism, failure, downswings and road blocks ultimately are the ones who reach that level of accomplishment that we originally set out for.

Success is NOT determined by how much money you make, Floyd Mayweather is successful because he is Undefeated as a fighter but if he quit boxing and started playing poker with $200 million it doesn't determine if he will be successful or not because he already has millions of dollars, actually he would prob lose more in one session then we would lose in our whole lifetime... Success is determined by Acheivement. Accomplishing your goals set 1 step at a time. Don't forget the amount of time he's spent in the Gym perfecting his craft, improving, training, trial n error, exhaustion, fatigue, hardwork, repetitiveness, then he shows up, competes and uses his Newley learned abilities on his opponents in order to pull off the win. All of a sudden you realize this applies to poker and you. The more hardwork+training you put in the better results you will get. Before the fight starts he already sees his hand being raised as the winner after 12 rounds. Poker is no different, you should see that 1st place spot with YOUR name on it before it even starts. There will be a barrage of punches thrown at you that you need to dodge+navigate your way thru the feilds of players until you reach your destination, 1st place.

WOW that is an awful lot to read lmao. I skimmed it and know that I already understand I am not that good but I strive to get better and hope one day I can play well enough to support this habit and play better tourneys and cash games and take trips to play live events.

Yeah, it is a bit long. You make some solid points and I do feel that it's worth reading, but as a heads-up - most folks on here won't read more than 80 words in any given post.

i belive if you can be good at poker and have discipline you can be successful at alot of other things

damn alot to read but i think any serious poker player already knows that and yea for beginners it should be drilled into their heads and memorized. Good stuff though.
